Love Covers Sin

Passage –  More than anything, keep loving each other actively; because love covers many sins. 1 Peter 4:8

Restated in your own words – Love others consistently because love covers a multitude of sins.

Application to your life – You can’t love and hate a the same time. If my focus is on what my spouse has done or said wrong it’s not focused on loving him. I can hold him accountable but not lett he sins or wrongs get in the way of our relationship. If I focus on the wrong, eventually that is all I will see and it will ruin my marriage more than any wrong done.

I wonder if the original text said love covers all sin. As God is love and He sent Jesus to cover all sin. We only have to accept the gift. I am called to let sin cover sin against me. Love doesn’t mean blindly accepting bad behavior but instead God disciplines and corrects me. Love will correct. Love will discipline, but it won’t continue to hold it against the sinner. God holds me to a higher standard.
