Choices

Passage – For this reason the gospel was preached also to those who are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit. 1 Peter 4:6

Restated in your own words – Jesus proclaimed to those who had already died that although they will face judgement, they had the opportunity to choose living with the Spirit.

Application to your life – I can’t imagine how that time might have been. Eager takers looking for a way out. Others who earnestly sought a better way. Probably others who thought “maybe next time” only to realize too late there wouldn’t be a next time.

Much like our world today, some “try the Christian life” but aren’t ready to surrender to the leading of Holy SPirit. They hang out on the outskirts believing the pure notion that a prayer without life change is sufficient. They are deceived.

Then there are others who know how they have been living is hell and that there must be a better way. Willing to do whatever it takes, they surrender to Holy Spirit. It may be a process, but one they are committed to take. They are enlightened.

There are others who may feel hell is okay or that they have nothing more to loose. They are unwilling to even look towards Holy Spirit-led way of life. They are dead spiritually.

And then there are those that can see the benefit but aren’t ready to make the commitment. They only realize too late that the Spirit led life held the life they really longed for. They are too late.

We each fall in to one or some of those categories in life. I lived deceived much of my life even after I passed the “too late thought” pattern. I’m glad I am on the path of surrendered enlightenment.

Your response back to God – Lord, thank You that even in death You were not willing that any should perish. You went after the dead just as You went after the living. Lord, I pray for a deeper surrender to You. I pray that every member of my family – spouse, child, grandchild, siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins,aunts, grandparent and in-laws would have an encounter with Youthat will lead them off the paths of death and deception and towards surrendered enlightenment.
