Passage – This also prefigures what delivers us now, the water of immersion, which is not the removal of dirt from the body, but one’s pledge to keep a good conscience toward God, through the resurrection of Yeshua the Messiah. 1 Peter 3:21
Restated in my own words – Baptism is not for the removal of dirt from the body. It is a pledge to live in and through Jesus with a clear conscious before God.
Application to my own life – I was baptized when I was 8 years old, fully immersed. It was a representation of my desire to accept Christ as my Savior and live for Him. There are many times I question if I should do it again, because I walked away five years later. I just don’t see where that is biblical. Instead I live knowing that Christ paid it all on the Christ and I need to live with a clear conscience before God daily. Sometimes I fail but my commitment is still there.
Your response back to God – Lord thank you for allowing the Holy Spirit to lead me to Christ when I was eight years old and for drawing me back when I walked away. You are truly an amazing God.
