Passage – This is how the holy women of the past who put their hope in God used to adorn themselves and submit to their husbands, the way Sarah obeyed Avraham, honoring him as her lord. You are her daughters if you do what is right and do not succumb to fear. 1 Peter 3:5-6
Restated in my own words – Sarah is an example, as a mother of faith in how to act holy as a woman. She didn’t focus on outward appearance but on her interaction with her husband.
Application to my life – When I think about Sarah two things quickly come to mind; she was willing to give her husband to another woman for the purpose of legacy however ill thought out the plan might have been. It was clear she didn’t always seek God first. Second, not once but twice she was willing to be given to another man to save her husband. As he thought rulers in other countries would kill him for her beauty to lied and said that she was his sister. That’s just pure crazy. Regardless she obeyed him and honored his request.
I’m not even pretending I could or would do either. I need to follow my husband’s lead instead of insisting on leading.
Your response back to God – Lord, I find it interesting the examples given in the Bible are certainly imperfect people like me. This gives me hope that You can use me for Your glory and honor. I want to be an example for my husband and for other women too. Help me to honor and obey.
