No Sin or Retaliation

Passage – “He committed no sin, nor was any deceit found on his lips.”

When he was insulted, he didn’t retaliate with insults; when he suffered, he didn’t threaten, but handed them over to him who judges justly. 1 Peter 2:22-23

Restated in my own words – Jesus did not commit sin, He did not speak deceitfully. He did not revile in return, He trusted God in His suffering.

Application to my own life – I am called to imitate Christ. He choose not to sin, not to speak deceit. He didn’t threaten when He was threatened. He simply trusted God.

Do I resort to self protection instead of trusting God? Often, although I think at times I waver back and forth. My mouth has always been one of my biggest enemies. It is getting better but with Christ as my example I have to do a lot better. I justify half truths when they are still deceitful. Honesty is the whole truth spoken in love. It means I don’t feel the need to defend myself against the speech of others. God is my defender. When I am defending myself I’m in the way of Him being my defender. My trust must be in God alone.

Your response back to God – Lord I want to trust You more. I want to let all of my speech honor You and to sin no more. I know You have done a work in me, but I also know there is so much farther to go. Keep remaking me into your image.
