Passage – Therefore, rid yourselves of all malice, of all deceit, hypocrisy and envy, and of all the ways there are of speaking against people; 1 Peter 2:1
Restated in my own words – Don’t be talking against other people, inflicting injury or harm out of meaningless, telling lies or misleading things about others, making someone into something they are not or speaking ill because of their success or possessions.
Application to my own life – I admit, I need to look up these words because they are not commonly used words. While I do try to rid myself of the ones I understand, I realize I do speak envy and just never realized it. I don’t usually want one others have, which I guess is really covetous, but I do speak of the wastefulness and pride of others. I don’t understand having a lot of possessions or toting my success before others. But that is envy. It’s not my place to judge others for what they have accomplished or what they possess. That is between them and God.
Your response back to God – Lord I repent of speaking envy against others. forgive me and help me to rid myself of these evil practices.
