Passage – Instead, let the boaster boast about this:
that he understands and knows me —
that I am Adonai, practicing grace,
justice and righteousness in the land;
for in these things I take pleasure,” says Adonai. Jeremiah 9:24
Restated in my own words – If we must boast let it be in what God takes pleasure in. Let us boast that we know and understand Him. Let us boast in that we acknowledge His grace, justice and righteousness in the world around us.
Application to my life – I like that I am known as someone who knows God. And I love that it brings God pleasure. I would like to know Him more. I have studied the character of God and learned about His grace. I know that there is much I haven’t really learned because I’m not walking in it. I have read it but it isn’t real in my life as a learned revelation. I don’t walk as if all the characteristics of God are true in my life or like I am made in His image. I realized that I don’t really understand God’s justice, only that Christ paid the price and that when I willfully disobey I often face consequences. I don’t really understand how it works. I know that God is righteous and that through Christ I have been made righteous in God’s sight. I am learning to walk in that but there are many areas where God is still working on me and revealing areas where I don’t walk in it.
Your response back to God – Lord I want to know You more. I want a deeper understanding of who You are. I want to understand Your grace, Your justice, and Your righteousness. Give me a deeper hunger for You. I want to do things Your way, in Your will and timing. Help me close my mouth and open my heart to You. In Jesus named Amen
