He Listens

Scripture – And if we really know he is listening when we talk to him and make our requests, then we can be sure that he will answer us.

Thoughts about what this Scripture means – God promises to listen to our prayers and answer.

Application to my life – I very much dislike having a conversation with my spouse and realizing that He is not listening. This is not a one way problem, I am often guilty of the same. I get completely distracted or am completely focused on something and truly not listening when the conversation begins.

Unlike a spouse, child, or another person, God gives me His full attention. When I talk, He listens. Do I give Him the same respect? Or do I allow my busy schedule, my own physical state or emotional state to distract me? Am I so preoccupied with my own thing that I fail to listen to His voice? Am I missing His opportunities because I am not listening?

The other promise of God is that He will answer. Since I allowed my children to have a cell phone, I have expected an answer when I reach out to them. This allows me to feel more secure when they are out with friends. One child in particular is bad about answering. I will call and get no answer. I will text and not get a response. This has happened like 14 times in the past two weeks . Yes, I realize she is an adult, but it is rude not to answer a request. That doesn’t happen with God He always answers. Yes, sometimes the answer is “no” and of “not yet” but He does answer.

Response back to God – Lord, thank You that when I call, You answer. Thank You for listening to my prayers. Help me to be a better listener. Help me to always answer Your call.
