God’s Household

ScriptureNow you are no longer strangers to God and foreigners to heaven, but you are members of God’s very own family, citizens of God’s country, and you belong in God’s household with every other Christian. Ephesians 2:19

Thoughts about what this scripture means I am a fellow citizen with the rest of God’s family

Application to my life – I am not just a member of God’s family, that could make me a distant relative. I don’t have contact with my distant relatives. I am more than a citizen who owes my allegiance to the kingdom and therefore entitled to its protection. I am part of God’s household. I am His child. I have direct access. God offers me belonging as part of His family. I am His daughter. He will protect me and I have given Him my allegiance. I am part of His household, so I will do my part as part of His household. There are things that He has called me to do and when I don’t pull my weight, someone else has too.

At home, my pet peeve is to walk into the house that was clean when I left and see a dirty kitchen, shoes everywhere, trash on the couch, the bathroom a disaster. I know undoubtedly someone has been home, and that someone doesn’t pick up after themselves. (I am that person sometimes for others in the house) I have thought about handing a housekeeping bill out, but I haven’t yet. Some days it makes me feel like a maid and I get resentful. Other days I rejoice and gladly pick up because it means I have family and they have been safely at home some point during the last eight hours.

It is like that in the Kingdom. We all live in the same household, God’s household. We have to pull our weight and do our part. If each person doesn’t do their part, it gets dumped on someone else. It is not all up to the pastors or those in the five-fold ministry, their job is to equip us to do our part.

Response back to God – Lord, I thank You for a visual that I can relate to, and I feel others can relate to also. Forgive me for the times I have been the burden in the household. And forgive me for times where I was resentful of having to pick up after someone else. I know You pick up after my mess frequently. Lord, help me to do my part for Your household, just as I do at home.
