Scripture – Dear brothers, you are only visitors here. Since your real home is in heaven, I beg you to keep away from the evil pleasures of this world; they are not for you, for they fight against your very souls. 1 Peter 2:11

Thoughts about what this scripture means – I am a stranger to this world in which I live temporarily.

Application to my life – The evil pleasures of this world fight against my very soul. There’s a lot of talk about what doors we open in the natural that opened us up to things in the spiritual. The evil pleasures of this world, what are my opening myself up to by the things I do?

Doing wrong – and exult in doing wrong, for they thoroughly enjoy their sins. Proverbs 2:14

Godless living –  and along with this gift comes the realization that God wants us to turn from godless living and sinful pleasures and to live good, God-fearing lives day after day, Titus 2:12

Foolishness, disobedience, lest, envy, and hatred – Once we, too, were foolish and disobedient; we were misled by others and became slaves to many evil pleasures and wicked desires. Our lives were full of resentment and envy. We hated others and they hated us. Titus 3:3

Destructive heresies, denying God, greed, lies, immorality, sexual desires, despising authority, pride, arrogance, scoffing the supernatural, lest, adultery, wandering off the right path, foolish boasting, and corruption – 2 Peter 2

It is easy to think I don’t open myself up to the worldly pleasures, but there are times, I am disobedient, prideful, envious and boast foolishly. There are things I engage in through television that may fight against my soul. I am just a visitor here in this world and visitors rarely engage in everything a place has to offer. Visitors typically have to seek things out and ultimately it is a choice to partake. So it is with the sin. We choose to seek it out and decide to partake or choose to not.

Prayer – Lord forgive me for not staying away completely from the evil pleasures of this world. I repent and ask You to reveal to me times, places, and things I should not be partaking. I don’t want to give the enemy any ground to fight against my soul. Help me to turn from these activities in Jesus’ name amen
