The High Priest and Jesus

The clothes were an outward indication of the preparation to God.

Have Aaron your brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so they may serve me as priests. Exodus 28:1

The clothes lent dignity and honor to his work.

Make sacred garments for your brother Aaron to give him dignity and honor. Exodus 28:2

The priests carried the 12 tribes of Israel on his shoulders as a reminder.

Engrave the names of the sons of Israel on the two stones the way a gem cutter engraves a seal. Then mount the stones in gold filigree settings and fasten them on the shoulder pieces of the ephod as memorial stones for the sons of Israel. Aaron is to bear the names on his shoulders as a memorial before the Lord Exodus 28:11-12

The chest piece over his heart also carried the 12 tribes of Israel on it.

Whenever Aaron enters the Holy Place, he will bear the names of the sons of Israel over his heart on the breastpiece of decision as a continuing memorial before the Lord. Exodus 28:29

Over his head he wore a sign stating “Holy to The Lord” to bear the guilt and so the people would be accepted and forgiven.

“You shall make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it, like the engraving of a signet, ‘Holy to the Lord.’ And you shall fasten it on the turban by a cord of blue. It shall be on the front of the turban. It shall be on Aaron’s forehead, and Aaron shall bear any guilt from the holy things that the people of Israel consecrate as their holy gifts. It shall regularly be on his forehead, that they may be accepted before the Lord. Exodus 28:36-28

They were anointed and sanctified.

And you shall put them on Aaron your brother, and on his sons with him, and shall anoint them and ordain them and consecrate them, that they may serve me as priests. Exodus 28:41

Jesus is our High Priest. He carried the people of His church on His shoulders as He carried our sins to the cross. For a while, I am sure the cross itself was heavy; yet probably nothing compared to the weight of the burdens of our sin on Jesus. He also wore our names on His heart as He loved us so much. On His head He wore a crown of thorns as He bore our guilt and made us acceptable to God.
